Dholera airport reported ~80% complete, operations targeted for Sept-Oct 2026

The update

Dholera International Airport is reported at ~80 percent complete as of July 2026, runway and tower done, terminal ~75 percent, with operations targeted for September to October 2026. It remains a target given the history of slipping dates.

Mid-2026 press reports put Dholera International Airport at around 80 percent complete, with the runway, taxiways and air traffic control tower reported finished and the terminal building roughly three-quarters done. India's civil aviation ministry has reportedly directed that on-site works be finalised by September 2026, with operations eyed for the September to October 2026 window.

Why we call it a target, not a date: the Dholera airport opening has slipped repeatedly since around 2010, through late-2025 and early-2026 targets. We report the 80 percent figure and the Sept-Oct 2026 window as they stand, but neither is a primary government completion certificate.

The airport is built and will be operated through Dholera International Airport Company Ltd (DIACL), a joint venture of the Airports Authority of India (51 percent), the Government of Gujarat (33 percent) and NICDC (16 percent). Phase-1 is a single 3,200 m Code 4E runway, wide-body capable, with initial capacity targeted at about 2 million passengers a year.
