Semiconductor Fab
A fabrication plant that manufactures computer chips; Dholera hosts the Tata-PSMC fab, the region's biggest industrial anchor.
A semiconductor fab, short for fabrication plant, is a highly specialised factory that manufactures computer chips on silicon wafers in ultra-clean conditions. Fabs are among the most capital-intensive industrial facilities in the world, which is why a fab anchoring a region is a strong signal of long-term industrial commitment.
Dholera hosts exactly such an anchor. Tata Electronics, with Taiwan's PSMC, is building an active fab approved by the Union Cabinet on 29 February 2024 under the India Semiconductor Mission, through the entity Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt Ltd. The investment is about Rs 91,000 crore, roughly US$11 billion, with the PIB Fiscal Support Agreement citing Rs 91,526 crore. Civil work was reported around 50 percent complete as of April 2026, and first trial production is targeted for December 2026, a target rather than an achieved milestone.
For a buyer, the fab is the clearest evidence that large real industry is committing to Dholera, and it underpins job targets exceeding 20,000 direct and indirect. It does not, however, guarantee any specific land return, which is speculative marketing. Note also that the old Vedanta-Foxconn plan is dead and not a live Dholera project.
