Is Dholera connected by train?
Not yet. As of July 2026 Dholera has no operational passenger rail link. The big development is a semi-high-speed rail line from Ahmedabad, approved by the CCEA on 13 May 2026 at a cost of Rs 20,667 crore for a roughly 134 km double line, described as India's first semi-high-speed rail with indigenous technology, targeted for 2030-31. A separate metro or MRTS is only planned, not sanctioned. So today Dholera reaches by road; rail is approved and coming, not running.
Rail is the connectivity question where sellers most often blur "approved" into "running." The honest status as of July 2026 is that Dholera has no operational passenger train link. What it has is a major approval that puts a fast rail line on a credible path, plus some longer-term proposals. Here is exactly where each one stands.
The semi-high-speed rail, approved not running
The headline is the Ahmedabad to Dholera semi-high-speed rail, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 13 May 2026, confirmed by a PIB release. It is a roughly 134 km double line costing Rs 20,667 crore, described as India's first semi-high-speed rail using indigenous technology, running from Sarkhej in Ahmedabad to Dholera. The target is 2030-31. Press reports add a top speed of up to 220 km/h and a Sabarmati to Dholera time of about 48 minutes, but those figures are not in the PIB text, so we tag them reported. Metro and freight, still on paper
Two other rail ideas circulate. A metro or MRTS between Sabarmati and Dholera is in-principle or planned only, with construction reportedly targeted around 2028, but it is not sanctioned, so treat it as planned rather than committed. A Bhimnath to Dholera freight line was proposed under the DMIC around 2013 and has been long pending with no current timeline. Neither should be counted as connectivity you can rely on when valuing a plot.
So how do you reach Dholera today?
By road. The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, a 109 km access-controlled road, was reported inaugurated on 31 March 2026, cutting the drive toward a target of about 40 minutes. The international airport is reported near completion. So the current connectivity spine is road and, soon, air, with rail arriving later this decade if the timeline holds. For most visitors and early residents this means planning a road journey rather than a rail booking, and treating any station or platform shown in a seller's brochure as a future facility, not one you can use on arrival today. The bottom line
Dholera is not yet connected by train. A semi-high-speed rail from Ahmedabad is approved and funded, targeted for 2030-31, which is genuinely significant, but it is not running. The metro and freight ideas remain unsanctioned and carry no committed timeline at all. Value Dholera on the road and air links that exist today, and treat rail as a future upside rather than a present amenity you can rely on now.
