Is Dholera airport open yet?
No. As of July 2026, Dholera International Airport is not open to passengers. It is reported to be around 80 percent complete, with the runway, taxiways and ATC tower done and the terminal roughly three-quarters finished. Operations are targeted for September to October 2026, but that is a target, and Dholera airport dates have slipped repeatedly since around 2010.
Short answer: the airport is not open. As of July 2026 it is reported to be around 80 percent complete and is being pushed toward a September to October 2026 operations target. Until a primary source such as the Airports Authority of India or the Ministry of Civil Aviation confirms flights, treat the airport as under construction, not operational.
What is actually finished
The heavy civil work is reported done. The runway, the taxiways and the air traffic control tower are all reported complete, and the terminal building is reported at roughly 75 percent. India's civil aviation ministry has reportedly directed that on-site works be finalised by September 2026. Those figures come from press reports and portal updates, not a government completion certificate, so we tag them reported.
Is it a real airport or a promise?
It is real and funded through a genuine special purpose vehicle, Dholera International Airport Company Ltd (DIACL). Ownership is split between the Airports Authority of India (51 percent), the Government of Gujarat (33 percent) and NICDC (16 percent), with the AAI as the operating anchor. Phase-1 is a single 3,200 m runway rated Code 4E, which can handle wide-body aircraft, with an initial target capacity of about 2 million passengers a year. This is a central-and-state project, not a private airstrip, which is why it carries more weight than a typical developer claim.
What it means for a buyer right now
The airport is the single biggest catalyst that could re-rate Dholera, and also the biggest timing risk. If a seller tells you the airport opens next month and asks you to pay an airport-premium price today, that is a reason to slow down, not speed up. Track the milestone on our airport project page rather than through a broker, see how it fits the network on the connectivity explorer, and use the investment horizon planner to model a realistic hold period instead of betting on one date.
